VMFA Field Trip

So last week I was lucky enough to be selected to chaperone my daughter's 3rd grade class on a field trip to Virgina Museum of Fine Arts (VMFA).  It was a fabuous trip with some adorable young girls.

The museum recently underwent a major renovation adding a huge new wing and gardens.  Isn't it beautiful? The garden in the distance is actually on top of the parking garage!  And the waterfall staircase is amazing.

We were visiting the museum to view the Ancient Egyptian Culture exhibit.
This marble sarcophogus is over 2500 years old.

Here is a bust of Homer.  Again over 2500 years old.
Simply amazing that these items are in such good  condition.

And another of the goddess Dionysus.
VMFA also houses a large exhibit of early american furniture.

A very large collection of FabergĂ©.

And another of my favorite's ... Georgia O'Keefe - modern before her time!

While the new areas of the museum are beautiful, one cannot help but notice the old areas of the museum.  This photo shows the old entrance.
The iron railing detail and room proportions are exquisite.

If ever in Richmond, VA a visit to the VMFA is a must!
