Guest Post: Arcadian Lighting

Hi! I’m Joanna, a writer for Arcadian Lighting, a wonderful online source for light fixtures and lighting news. I’m passionate about interior design and love collecting decorating ideas and images to share through guest posts such as this one on inspiring blue and grey interiors. Thank you Kirsten for letting me share with your readers today!

Interior Design Blue and Gray Accents
A blue tufted sofa sits center stage in this elegant living room with grey on the walls and floor. A pattern with mixed blues and greys would work nicely here to anchor the room.

Home Decor Blue and Grey Accents
Light blue and grey give this living room a summery feel with its floral window treatments and pretty pillows. I love the blue accent wall behind the shelves.

Blue and Grey Color Scheme Home
A modern space looks homey dressed in blue and grey. The floral shade ties the colors together. I love the slender swing arm lighting fixture.

Traditional Interior Design
The lightest blues and greys fit together beautifully in this traditional living room. The grey on the walls is so soothing. I especially love the floral pattern on the draperies.

Color Scheme Blue and Grey Room
This summery blue, grey and white living room looks light and breezy with its striped window treatments, slipcovered furniture and sisal rug.

Classic Furniture Interior Design
A formal oval dining room with classic furnishings is quite sophisticated dressed in blue and grey. The antler light fixture in red is an interesting touch.

Bedroom Interior Design
Blue, cream and grey look lovely mixed in this charming bedroom. The wallpaper adds interest amongst the solids in the space.

Bedroom Home Decor
The soft hues in this guest room offer a relaxing and comfortable place to get away from it all. The faux deer mounts are a bit unexpected.   Images 1 | 2 | 3 | 4 | 5 | 6 | 7 | 8

Welcome Home!

I have been driving around through all of the cute neighborhoods in Richmond, VA this summer visiting clients!  The other day I had my camera in the car with me because I had just finished shooting one of my projects.  I could not help but notice all of the wonderful front porches and the variety of ways that homeowners have made their personal statement of "Welcome Home!"

How do you style your front porch?
Have a great week!

Kitchen Renovation after Devasting Fire (Part 2)

Summer is in full swing here in Richmond and the heat is on!  Thunderstorms are in the forecast again today...and many are looking to renovate their kitchens for the upcoming holiday season.  Here is the second in a series of posts about my project of the "house that burned from a summer lightning strike".

Here is the kitchen from the original house
(major confusion just days after the fire)
Now the kitchen is bright and airy!
Remember the home was re-built on the existing foundation, so the rooms are all the same size.  We created light and space by changing cabinet layout and color, opening doorways, widening the pass-through over the sink and using double sided glass cabinets.
This furniture-like cabinet was built to accommodate the pantry and the refrigerator.  The use of a wood counter and bonnet top help this area standout as a focal point.  The chocolate breakfast counter also "reads" like a piece of furniture floating in the kitchen.  The beautiful light fixture from Ferguson hanging above keep this counter an intimate dining space. The beautifully curved barstools and dining chairs are from Artistica and are upholstered in Brunschwig & Fils fabric.
The Walker Zanger tiled niche above the wolf range is the focal point.
Colors from the hand-painted tiles set the palette for this space.

This kitchen will be featured in the August issue of Elite Interiors magazine.
(A glossy monthly life-style magazine in Russia.)

I hope you enjoyed the post.  As always, if you would like assistance with your next project, contact our offices to see how we may best make your dreams a reality!

Foyer Renovation

Looking to make a great first impression?
While every house is different, there are certain things
to keep in mind when creating a welcome entry to your home.
This foyer renovation is fresh and simple.
A neutral palette keeps one's eye moving forward into the home.
The wool Stanton runner provides pattern to conceal everyday traffic.
The wall stencil is interesting but not distracting.
Neutral oriental rugs from Kambourian provide adequate floor coverage
and help keep noise in this open floor plan to a minimum.

Happy 4th of July!

I hope everyone enjoys the mid-week 4th of July!
I'll be heading to Virginia Beach with my family later today for our annual celebration...beach fun, barbecue and fireworks!

 Happy Birthday America!
